Introduction to Reproductive Health for Youth Serving Professionals

Are you new to sex education? Or has it been awhile since you've covered this content? Or would you just like to brush up our knowledge and skills?

Introduction to Reproductive Health for Youth Serving Professionals provides the participant with a general overview of core concepts related to reproductive health as it relates to overall adolescent health. Topics covered include Reproductive Anatomy and Physiology, Adolescent Growth and Development, HIV/STIs, and Contraceptive Technology.  This training also provides strategies for teaching comprehensive sexuality education that meet the standards set forth by the Comprehensive Health Education Act (CHEA).

Objectives:  

By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe reproductive biology in a teen-friendly way. 
  • Describe the link between brain development, hormones, physical maturation, sexual exploration, and teen pregnancy.
  • List the most common barrier and hormonal contraceptives used by teens and summarize how they work.
  • Describe symptoms and treatments for common bacterial and viral sexually transmitted infections & diseases, including HIV/AIDS.
  • Identify personal values and the impact of those values on their ability to effectively teach about adolescent sexuality issues.
  • Identify guidelines for answering sensitive questions regarding sexuality, HIV, STDs, and adolescent pregnancy prevention.

Brittany Sydnor & Denise Marcano

Brittany Sydnor

Brittany joined Fact Forward in October 2020 as the Health Communication Specialist. In this role she in responsible for working with local communities to a develop multi-year plan to identify, prioritize, and execute health communication strategies. Sydnor earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health from the University of South Carolina. Originally from New Jersey, Brittany has fallen in love with south. Prior to joining Fact Forward fulltime she was an intern in 2019. She also worked as a Teen Pregnancy Outreach Worker at the Virginia Department of Health and at local high schools.

Denise Marcano 

Hailing from New York, Denise has been a resident of the Carolinas for well over a decade where she has been deeply involved in helping its residents on different social issues. Denise has been working in the HIV/AIDS, STD and teen pregnancy field for over 17 years in a prevention/treatment healthcare setting. Prior to her joining the Fact Forward staff she worked as a Community Health Educator for a local community organization providing prevention, education and testing services to York, Lancaster and Chester county concentrating on under served populations with a focus on Hispanic/Latino, women of color, LGBTQ, and adolescent populations for 9 years.
