emPOWERing K.I.N.G.S.

Fact Forward created the emPOWERing K.I.N.G.S. (Knowledge Instills Next Generational Success), a multi-session education curriculum and mentoring program designed to prioritize sexual and reproductive health education for Black high school- and college-aged young men.  Our approach when developing K.I.N.G.S. was possibility-based, not deficit-based.

Creating a broader sexual and reproductive health education curriculum allows young men to make informed decisions surrounding their sexual choices, self-image, and more.

100% would recommend this program for young black men

100% felt comfortable discussing topics such as dating and relationships, sexual and reproductive health, and consent

89% believe the program had a large impact on participants decision making skills and behaviors

Based on responses to surveys from K.I.N.G.S. facilitators/mentors

  • The young men read a prepared speech on why they are a King. It was very impressive and sometimes emotional. To see the transformation of the beginning to the end of the program was amazing.

  • emPOWERing K.I.N.G.S. to me gave us the tools to have those engaging, and if you will maybe uncomfortable, topics, conversations that a lot of times people don’t want to bring up…I believe it just really really really gave us a way to talk about things that really needed to be talked about.

  • Two kids from a previous class still had their shirts on years later… just seeing the impact on that was a beautiful thing.

  • Once we started going… they started talking more, opening up more… and then when it was time to leave, they were asking when they were coming back.

    K.I.N.G.S. facilitator/mentor

  • I could see their maturity level and how they respond improving from week to week. And I think that was amazing… even the mentors were like, ‘Oh my gosh, they get it really good.’

  • One mom reached out and said, ‘He’s only been to a few sessions, and I’m already seeing growth in him.”

    K.I.N.G.S. facilitator/mentor

  • [emPOWERing K.I.N.G.S.] needs to be everywhere.

    K.I.N.G.S. facilitator/mentor

  • Being able to provide this space that allows these kids exposure to content that we know they’re not getting anywhere else… it is extremely rewarding.
