Becoming an "Ask"able Adult: Talking with Teens about Tough Topics Series
Providing care and support to teens to make healthy decisions can be a challenging job. This workshop is designed for youth-serving professionals to improve their communication skills in supporting adolescents’ healthy decisions. Every moment with a teen is precious; this workshop is designed to ensure those rare moments are positive encounters that have the most benefit for the teen. Objectives:
1. Describe the role of an Askable Adult.
2. Describe reproductive biology in a teen-friendly way.
3. Describe the link between brain development, hormones, physical maturation, sexual exploration, and teen pregnancy.
4. Describe how trauma can impact a young person’s behavior and communication skills.
5. Demonstrate effective communication skills between adults and teens about contraception, safer sex, and other sexuality issues.
This training will be a 3 part series - Part 1 is on January 11th, Part 2 is on January 18th, and Part 3 is on January 25th.

Denise Marcano
Hailing from New York, Denise has been a resident of the Carolinas for well over a decade where she has been deeply involved in helping its residents on different social issues. Denise has been working in the HIV/AIDS, STD and teen pregnancy field for over 17 years in a prevention/treatment healthcare setting. Prior to her joining the Fact Forward staff she worked as a Community Health Educator for a local community organization providing prevention, education and testing services to York, Lancaster and Chester county concentrating on under served populations with a focus on Hispanic/Latino, women of color, LGBTQ, and adolescent populations for 9 years.
