Fact Forward Youth Leadership Council FAQ

What is the Youth Leadership Council (YLC)?

The Youth Leadership Council is a group of dynamic youth who will have an opportunity to share ideas, give opinions and lead initiatives in South Carolina/North Carolina to support adolescent reproductive health efforts.

Why we want you…

Fact Forward believes that youth and young adults’ voices should be at the center of everything that we do. We respect all youth and young adults and whom they hope to be. As a member of the YLC, you will serve as a voice and a sounding board for Fact Forward and other organizations to support adolescent reproductive health efforts.

How do you qualify for the YLC?

Are you between the ages of 15-21 • Do you reside in North Carolina? • Do you reside in Barwell, Darlington or Richland counties of South Carolina? • Do you have an interest in adolescent reproductive health or education and want to make an impact in your community? Yes?? You qualify!

When can I apply?

Applications will be accepted January 22, 2024 – March 1, 2024. Please visit our website at www.factforward.org/ylc or contact Yajaira Maldonado at Ymaldonado@factforward.org for additional information.

Is the YLC limited to a certain number of applicants?

Yes! Only a limited number of applicants will be accepted to participate as a YLC member during each enrollment period. Approximately 12 students will be accepted to participate.

Will youth who apply automatically be accepted to the YLC?

Each application will be reviewed to determine acceptance to the YLC. The 12 applications that demonstrate the most promise to become an active, dedicated, motivative participant will be selected.

How will the YLC function?

The YLC will meet virtually every other month, and once in-person for a 2-day summer retreat. Meetings will serve to educate the YLC about adolescent reproductive health education and services, and to provide the YLC a structure to create peer-to-peer dialogue to increase awareness and knowledge of adolescent reproductive health. We ask that YLC members actively participate in meetings, maintain communication via follow-up email/text, and attend the YLC Summer Retreat.

What will be the benefit for the YLC members selected?

YLC members will have the opportunity to develop their leadership, team process and project management skills, enhance communication abilities, and deepen knowledge of adolescent reproductive health. Participation can be referenced in college and job applications. YLC members will also receive up to $500 e-gift cards and additional incentives throughout their service.
