Fact Forward, formerly the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, works throughout the state of South Carolina, with the professional staff of nearly 180 organizations, to carry out its mission. We aim to improve the health and economic well-being of individuals, communities, and the state of South Carolina by preventing teen pregnancy and advancing reproductive health. Graduate Student Assistant

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Provide support to the emPOWERed SC Project Manager and other staff, including training support, attending peer educator meetings, and assisting with the development of a peer education programming.
  • Assist the Partner Engagement Associate (PEA) with ongoing development of content for the Online Learning Center including but not limited to the topics of science-based approaches, program implementation and evaluation, and innovation for any Fact Forward Peer Education trainings.
  • Support the PEA in the ongoing conversion of training support materials to virtual formats.
  • Assist the Health Communication Specialist Partner Engagement staff with innovational uses of social media and digital formats to market, disseminate, and engage partner communities with peer education trainings, relevant to adolescent health.
  • Meet with staff across the agency to learn more about the agency and adolescent reproductive health.
  • Attend and provide support for all relevant internal and external meetings, presentations, site visits and exhibits when appropriate.
  • Administrative duties such as facilitating focus groups, purchasing and distributing incentives for participation in evaluation activities
  • Per experience with the agency, decide on an agency focus and/or project for the semester.

Other duties and responsibilities include:

  • Organize data via MS Excel spreadsheets as requested.
  • Assist with Health Services Department projects, including training assessments and other research activities, training design updates, in-person training sessions, webinars, and conferences. documents as requested.

Education & Experience: 

This assistantship is intended to support the development of an early career professional focused on developing skills for integrating evaluation into nonprofit settings and contributing to the fields of evaluation and teen pregnancy prevention. The successful applicant will have attained a Masters or Doctoral degree within the past five years in Public Health, Psychology, Social Work or a related field, and have experience working on evaluation and/or experience in research and evaluation related to reproductive health. This individual must have good organizational and writing skills and be detail-oriented; be able to communicate and work effectively with the interdisciplinary team.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

Knowledge

Employee must have proficient knowledge of:

  • Data management
  • Basic principles of research and evaluation
  • Strategies for evaluating teen pregnancy prevention programs
  • Methods for conducting research and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data
  • Organizational development and/or organizational learning

Skills

Employee must demonstrate the following skills:

  • Maintain tracking logs of materials received,
  • Create charts in excel,
  • Accurately enter data into reports
  • Use of software packages such as UCINET, SPSS or SAS
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and collaborative work style
  • Facilitation of groups

Abilities

Employee must be able to:

  • Learn software programs such as UCINET, SPSS and Excel for data management and basic analysis
  • Learn to create online surveys using surveymonkey.com
  • Balance competing priorities,
  • Manage time well when working on different projects
  • Communicate effectively at all levels internally and externally
  • Work well in, and facilitate a team environment
  • Exercise independent judgment
  • Synthesize information from multiple sources and make appropriate recommendations
