Understanding Teen Development and Sexual Behavior: Guidance for Parents and Professionals

This virtual training explores the emotional, cognitive, and social changes that occur during adolescence and how they intersect with sexual development and behavior. Participants will gain tools for recognizing typical versus concerning behaviors, fostering healthy conversations, and supporting teens in navigating relationships, consent, and identity.
Objectives:
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
Identify key stages of adolescent brain and emotional development.
Distinguish between age-appropriate sexual behaviors and behaviors of concern.
Apply strategies to engage teens in conversations about relationships, consent, and online influences.
Support teens’ healthy development through trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches.
Speaker:
Dr. Alexandra Karydi, Ph.D., LMFT, CASAC II, is a licensed marriage and family therapist and behavioral health leader with extensive experience in suicide prevention, trauma-informed care, and program development. She currently serves as the Project Director for the Suicide Prevention Resource Center at Education Development Center, and maintains a private clinical practice. Dr. Karydi has worked internationally and nationally across healthcare systems, community organizations, and academic settings, specializing in building sustainable, culturally responsive behavioral health programs.
